Olivier Giroud has officially announced his retirement from international football after France were eliminated from Euro 2024. The 2018 World Cup winners were defeated 2-1 in the semifinals by Spain, ending their hopes of making it to the finals.

And the country’s record goal scorer bowed out quietly, playing for only 56 minutes across four appearances as a substitute in the tournament. The former AC Milan striker has found the back of the net 57 times in 137 games for Les Bleus.

The 37-year-old confirmed that he would not continue with the French national team after the Euros. And in a tournament where the team only scored once from open play, perhaps they could’ve used his experience up front to score from tight situations.

But all said and done, Olivier Giroud has enjoyed a very successful career in Europe for both the national team and at the club level. He won the 2018 World Cup with France, and was also a part of the team that finished as the runners-up in Euro 2016.

Now, he is set for a final spell in the MLS with Los Angeles before he hangs up his boots.

Has Olivier Giroud won the Champions League?

Yes, once with Chelsea
