Ola to build the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu by 2022

The Bengaluru-based firm, Ola, has recently announced that they will be building the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturing facility called Ola FutureFactory. It will have the ability to produce 10 million e-scooters every year. The factory is spread over 500 acres in Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu and is planned to be operational from 2022. When such a big plant is prepared, we can see the potential of a lot of job opportunities.

According to Ola, this project will generate 10,000 direct employment and a large number of indirect jobs that Ola vendors will create. Phase 1 of this factory will be done by June 2021, which is just in two months. This will have an annual capacity of two million. Once all four phases are completed, this FutureFactory will roll out one scooter every two seconds at full capacity. How amazing is that!

This factory will also have 3,000 AI-powered robots built on Industry 4.0 principles, one of the modern ways to govern a business. The best part is that it will be an integrated manufacturing facility. This means that the factory will take care of manufacturing and battery, paint, welding, motor, general assembly, finished foods, and two supplier parks.

Ola has taken sustainability into account by having a solar roof-top over the mega block of the factory. Ola Electric acquired the Netherlands-based Etergo BV in 2020. It is an innovative electric scooter company and this tells that Ola has big plans in this domain in the near future.

Sharing our vision of the Ola Futurefactory! With 10M units/yr, it'll be the largest 2W factory in the world, 15% of world’s capacity! With 3000+ robots, it'll be the most advanced & with 100 acres of forest, carbon negative operations, it‘ll be the most sustainable. @OlaElectric pic.twitter.com/1iSjFCMJIS

Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Group CEO, said, “With electric, digitally connected capabilities, two-wheelers will further emerge as the most preferred urban mobility paradigm around the world and empower every consumer. We look forward to building the best global capabilities in engineering, design, and manufacturing for these products to be made here in India.”

Ola Electric is also working intensively with power distribution companies to build a robust EV ecosystem in Delhi. The ruling government in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party, has already launched its “Switch Delhi” campaign, which offers many incentives for people to switch to EV vehicles.
