We could finally be set for an early Ligue 1 title race this year, with Monaco and OGC Nice currently ahead of PSG in the standings. The Principality club are currently first in the table with 20 points from nine games. On the other hand, Nice are unbeaten in their first nine games of the season with 5 wins and 4 draws, meaning they have 19 points thus far.

PSG, on the other hand, sit in third place with 18 points from their first nine games. The defending champions have endured a rocky start to the season, but remain the favourites to win the title in June next year in spite of it.

OGC Nice manager Franceso Farioli has done a remarkable job so far this season. The Italian is in charge of his first club in Europe’s big five leagues, having managed Karagumruk and Alanyaspor prior to his appointment in France.

He started out as a goalkeeping coach at the age of 20, and at 34, is one of the most promising young coaches in Europe. No one expected Nice to be among the top in Ligue 1 this season prior to the start of the season, and their performance has been an enjoyable surprise for fans.

With the addition of Folarin Balogun, Monaco have been able to conjure up a steady run of results. And they will be backing themselves to try and challenge for the title once more, after achieving the feat in 2016.

But, it would be foolish to write off PSG just yet, considering their squad depth and the man in charge.
