After much debate about SC East Bengal’s participation in the Hero Indian Super League 2020-21 campaign, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee made sure that the differences between the clubs and the investors were kept aside to enable the historic club to play in the top-flight league of India.
SC East Bengal confirmed their participation in ISL but faced an uphill task to build a team competitive enough to finish in the top four. However, till now they have done a good job.
The Kolkata club has now taken everybody by surprise as everyone was expecting former Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler to continue as the head coach. But, SCEB has now officially announced former Real Madrid Castilla coach Manuel ‘Manolo’ Diaz as the new head coach for the Hero Indian Super League 2021-22 season.
SC East Bengal has mutually terminated the contract with Robbie Fowler. They wrote: “SC East Bengal can confirm that the club has agreed with Robbie Fowler to a mutual termination of the head coach’s contract.”
“We wish Robbie all the best with his future endeavours and look forward to his continued association with Shree Cement Limited.”
SC East Bengal, one of the historic clubs in Asia, will now hope that Manuel Diaz will be able to guide them back to their glory days.
