Chris Smalling spent the last season on loan at Serie A side AS Roma. He was quite good at the back for Roma and they wanted to sign the 30-year-old permanently from the very start of this transfer window.
But, Manchester United were reluctant to let him go for a cheap price and the transfer saga was stretched too long until the transfer deadline day.
Now, the English defender has officially joined Roma on a four-year deal worth €15m plus €5m as add-ons.
Smalling played an important role in Paulo Fonseca’s side and helped them to a fifth-place Serie A finish. He also helped them in their pursuit of Europa League qualification.
Overall, the defender made 30 league appearances last season and scoring three goals.
Smalling’s career has rejuvenated after he moved to Italy last season. He will definitely help the Serie A side to fight for a Champions League place this season.
