Manchester City have successfully completed the signing of Fluminense winger Kayky, after scouting the player for months. The teenager will have to wait to come to England, though, and will join up with the youth team in 2022.
Given that he is only 17 right now, he will not be eligible for a work permit in England and will have to wait till he turns 18 to apply for the same. The transfer is similar to that of Amad Diallo to Manchester United in the summer of 2020. The Atalanta youth product joined up with the rest of the team in winter of 2020 after the transfer was announced in the summer.
Manchester City have agreed a sum worth €10 million upfront with bonuses shooting up the transfer fee to about €17 million in total. The Brazilian joins City on a five year contract, which begins in 2022 and will run until 2027, when the player will be 23 years old.
Kayky will spend the remainder of the ongoing season, as well as the entirety of the 21/22 season in Brazil with Fluminense. At the end of the 21/22 season, the winger will officially become a Manchester City player.
Although it is unlikely that he will be given a chance in the first team right away, there are multiple other clubs he could be loaned to given City group’s different projects. He could also spend some time developing with the youth team, and be given chances in the competitive first team sporadically.
