Official: LaLiga will resume on 11th June with the Seville derby

Finally, LaLiga is officially on the verge of resumption. The Spanish league has been suspended since March due to the Coronavirus pandemic. But now things are slowly getting back to normal. LaLiga is all set to resume on 11th June with the Seville derby being the first match to be played after resuming.

Spain’s Higher Council of Sport (CSD) said it had agreed the resumption plans with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga. The league will resume on 11th June and will finish the season on the weekend of 18-19th July.

CSD published a statement, which read: “The resumption of the competition will take place during the weekend of June 13-14, with the first match on Thursday the 11th between Sevilla and Real Betis.
The last day will occur, provisionally and always depending on the evolution of the pandemic, on the weekend of July 18 and 19.”

All the matches will be played behind closed doors as a safety precaution to prevent the spreading of COVID-19. LaLiga will also allow five substitutions instead of three, just like Bundesliga. This measure has been taken to prevent the injury rate of players as there will be many games in a short time span.

The RFEF on Wednesday that to fit in so many games in such a short period of time, it would allow matches to be played on Mondays and Fridays too.

There are 11 rounds of matches remaining in the league with Barcelona holding a small advantage of 2 points at the top of the table over their rivals Real Madrid.
