OFFICIAL: Joan Laporta becomes the new Barcelona president

After the tumultuous period of FC Barcelona during Josep Maria Bartomeu reign, things seem to return to normal after the resignation of Bartomeu.

Three candidates fought in the Barcelona presidential election, with the Joan Laporta being the clear favourite as he has previously taken Barcelona to the European summit during his period between 2003-2010.

Joan Laporta won by a 54.28% vote followed by Victor Font with 29.99% votes.

Joan Laporta said after winning the Barcelona presidential election, via Marca: “I want to thank the members who have participated in the elections, which make us more than a club and who have been the most important in history, for the conditions of maximum difficulty in which they have been held, due to the pandemic.”

Laporta further commented on Cruyff and Lionel Messi: “Surely Johan has helped us. He inspires us in all the decisions we have to make. This candidacy is cruyffista. Today it was 20 years ago that a boy named Leo Messi made his debut with the Barça child and see the captain vote, the best in history and in the world …, who has come with his son and has participated in this party is a sample of what we have been saying. Leo loves Barcelona. And this is significant and hopefully it will help him to stay.”

All the Barcelona fans will hope that Laporta will be able to restore normalcy at the club once again and bring back the glory days at Camp Nou.
