After the IPL 2021 was stopped abruptly in the middle due to the spread of the COVID-19 inside the bio-bubble as well. India was recording a total of more than 4 lakhs cases every day, and BCCI finally decided to halt the tournament.

The IPL 2021 Phase 2 was in talks from the very start, and now the BCCI has confirmed that they are hoping to host the remaining matches of the IPL 2021 in the September-October window. They have cited the monsoon season as the reason to shift the IPL 2021 to UAE, but COVID-19 would have also crossed their minds while making the decision.

Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary of BCCI told ib the official statement: “BCCI to conduct remaining matches of VIVO IPL in UAE.”

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year.”

“The decision was taken at a Special General Meeting (SGM) held virtually, where members unanimously agreed to resume IPL.”

“The BCCI SGM further authorised the Office Bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.”
