Odisha FC made history with their 2-1 win over Bengaluru FC in the finals of the Hero Super Cup, to win their first ever trophy. Diego Mauricio helped the Juggernauts earn a big advantage in the first half, with his brace.
Sunil Chhetri was eventually able to pull one back for Bengaluru FC, but it wasn’t enough to give them a lifeline in the finals. They were lucky to only be down two, with the manner of play. However, their changes during half time weren’t able to help them out in the second half either. Missed chances and bad luck caught up to them, as Odisha won a final for the first time.
Odisha FC win Hero Super Cup – Clifford Miranda’s redemption
Odisha FC head coach Clifford Miranda became the first ever Indian head coach to win the Hero Super Cup last night. His performance in the league wasn’t quite as good as expected, with the team barely making it to the playoffs.
However, the tournament has presented a completely different image. Amrinder Singh was named the goalkeeper of the tournament, while Diego Mauricio earned the player of the tournament award, scoring in the semi-final as well as the final.
In spite of ending on a high note, Clifford Miranda won’t be continuing with Odisha FC. Sergio Lobera has already been named the new head coach of the club, having signed the contract as well. Now, Miranda could become a man in demand considering the recent turnaround in his team’s performance.
