Nvidia’s upcoming CMP crypto mining cards will be based on Turing GPUs

When Nvidia announced that it will soon be releasing its upcoming CMP crypto mining card, we were all worried about the supply constraint problem. As we all know, Nvidia is currently in a tight spot as it is still facing a shortage in the supply of its 8nm Ampere GPUs.

As such, everyone worried that there won’t be enough CMP cards to fulfill the demands. But according to Videocardz, NVIDIA’s upcoming CMP crypto mining cards won’t use Ampere GPUs but will leverage older Turing hardware built on the 12nm process. The Turing-based crypto mining cards will not have an impact on Ampere supply. It’s a win-win situation for all.

According to sources, the CMP 30HX has an ETH hash rate of 26 MH/s and will be based on TU116, the same GPU powering the GeForce GTX 1660 Super and GeForce GTX 1650 Super. But the CMP 40HX will be based on the TU106 GPU that powers the GeForce RTX 2060.

The green team has announced two more CMP cards, the CMP 50HX, and CMP 90HX. Both the CMP 50HX and CMP 90HX feature 10GB VRAM buffers and a 320W TDP. Going with the specs, the 50HX and 90HX will most likely be the Ampere GPUs. But need not worry as they are both poised for a Q2 2021 launch, by which time Ampere GPU supply might improve.
