Due to a lack of TU117 GPU silicon, NVIDIA partners have switched to TU106 for the GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card. Despite being an entry-level card with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 is among the top 10 graphics cards used by gamers on Steam, according to the most recent Hardware Survey report.

In spite of using the Turing graphics architecture, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 16 series GPUs don’t support hardware raytracing or DLSS. However, the absence of such features can significantly reduce costs and push them below $100 US.

As a result, Board Channels Forums reports that NVIDIA’s AIBs, particularly with APAC, may have felt the need to repurpose the final TU106 GPU dies in GeForce GTX 1650 graphics cards.

Older graphics cards like the NVIDIA GTX 1650 are not in high demand in the United States because current alternatives like the RX 6300/RX 6400 and the Arc A310/A380 are more reasonably priced while providing better performance and features.

Companies do not intend to stop producing the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU outside of the US, such as in China.

This might encourage manufacturers to switch to the more powerful TU106 or TU116 GPU as the base model, albeit with some changes to the specifications.

Don’t anticipate any new features from the new chip. It is unclear from the Board Channels report whether the new GeForce GTX 1650 graphics cards will use GDDR5 or GDDR6 memory, but memory specifications are likely to stay the same unless they are discussing an entirely new SKU.
