NVIDIA Set to Unveil GeForce RTX 40 ‘SUPER’ GPUs at CES 2024: Rumors and Expectations

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 “SUPER” GPUs appear to be on the verge of an official announcement, according to the latest information shared by the well-known leaker, Kopite7kimi. Responding to a comment, the leaker has indicated that the SUPER Refresh of the GeForce RTX 40 GPUs is slated for an official unveiling at CES 2024. CES, taking place in Las Vegas, the United States, is scheduled between January 9th and January 12th.

Although many tech companies traditionally participate in CES 2024, NVIDIA has not yet announced an official event or keynote during the event. It’s worth noting that some pre-show events may not be listed in the official schedule close to the event.

However, considering that the GeForce RTX 40 SUPER GPU refresh is a significant product announcement for NVIDIA, there is an expectation of some promotional activities leading up to the launch. In the past, NVIDIA teased its last RTX 20 SUPER GPUs months ahead of the launch, which led to speculation about whether the “SUPER” teaser was merely a marketing ploy or an actual product launch.

What is known at this stage is that NVIDIA is anticipated to introduce at least three graphics cards within its GeForce RTX 40 “SUPER” Refresh lineup. These cards are expected to include the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and the RTX 4070 SUPER.

It’s important to note that the naming conventions, specifications, and prices are not finalized, as NVIDIA typically evaluates multiple SKUs before the official release to prevent leaks of actual “launch” hardware. Therefore, the rumors circulating up to this point may or may not be entirely accurate. However, it’s confirmed that most of the rumored SKUs do exist in some form and tend to surface after the release of the official “retail” SKUs.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Specifications (Rumored)

At the top tier, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, which is rumored to utilize the AD103-400 GPU with a full complement of 10,240 cores, 320 TMUs, 112 ROPs, and 64 MB of L2 cache. The chip is expected to feature a 256-bit bus interface, suggesting a 16 GB GDDR6X memory configuration, similar to the RTX 4080 Non-SUPER. This implies that NVIDIA may offer both 20 GB (AD102 / 320-bit) and 16 GB (AD103 / 256-bit) SKUs, but the final selection for retail remains uncertain. The TBP (Total Board Power) for the RTX 4080 SUPER is expected to be similar to the 320W rating of the RTX 4080 Non-SUPER.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER Specifications (Rumored)

Moving on, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, a naming choice that has raised some eyebrows. In terms of specifications, this card is believed to feature AD103-275 / AD102-175 GPU SKUs, both equipped with 8,448 cores and 48 MB of L2 cache. The TBP for the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is expected to be in the vicinity of the existing 4070 Ti’s 285W.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Specifications (Rumored)

Lastly, there’s the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, which is rumored to come in AD104-350 or AD103-175 SKU configurations, both featuring 7,168 cores. The GPU is projected to have 48 MB of L2 cache. This card is likely to retain the 12 GB GDDR6X memory configuration, although NVIDIA may enhance memory speeds using improved Micron DRAM to alleviate the load on the 192-bit bus interface. The RTX 4070 SUPER is expected to have a 20W higher TBP compared to the existing 4070, with a rating of 220W.
