According to a recent source, Nvidia has teamed up with Samsung to develop its GeForce GPUs. We already know that Nvidia has TSMC supplying the 8nm nodes. But the Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has a real big issue on its hands and lacks supply.
In recent times the demand for Nvidia’s GPUs has hit an all-time high in the market, and the green team cannot deal with the supply bottleneck of TSMC. Hence, it’s the right choice that the company is going forward with Samsungs 8nm nodes.
But for those who don’t know, Nvidia initially imported the nodes from Samsung, but since the Korean giant suffered from low yields and lack of supply, it then moved towards TSMC. However, the recent reports indicate that Nvidia is once again going to establish a deal with Samsung.
According to sources, NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen has reportedly signed on Samsung for a second contract to produce its GPUs. When asked about the move, the company stated that it is optimistic about the yields which Samsung will pay for its GPUs. Samsung claims that it will be using EUV to create a 4nm process that will narrow the gap between TSMC and Samsung. As to whether this will work remains to be seen.
The new deal is quite beneficial for Samsung because retaining Nvidia as its client will only increase its profits. As for AMD’s case (yep, we are talking about our team red), it will benefit because TSMC will now have its workload decreased. Nvidia will benefit from the fact that Samsung will only be focused on supplying 8nm nodes to the company alone. In the case of TSMC, our boy in Taiwan will most certainly not be happy after losing a client like Nvidia. Cheer up; you still have AMD and Apple.
