NVIDIA officially restricts Reflex 2 technology to GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs, but an unofficial tech demo from modder “Pure Dark” reportedly works on all RTX cards—even the RTX 20 series. DSO Gaming confirms the tech demo runs successfully on RTX 30 series, meaning RTX 40 series compatibility is also likely.

NVIDIA Reflex 2 Works on All RTX GPUs

Pure Dark reverse-engineered the nvngx_ratewarp.dll file leaked during ARC Raider’s public test and created a small tech demo that enables Reflex 2 functionality on older RTX GPUs. The Reflex 2 technology was already bundled with The Finals around May 2024, which provided the foundation for this unofficial demonstration.

How Frame Warp Technology Works

Reflex 2 brings “Frame Warp” functionality that reduces latency and improves gaming experiences in fast-paced titles. Frame Warp takes the newest camera position from the CPU and adjusts the last GPU-rendered frame to match it, happening right before the frame displays on screen so the latest mouse movements show instantly.

The FPS Requirement Challenge

The feature works great when systems deliver 100+ FPS, but at 30-60 frame rates, users experience visual artifacts since movement between frames becomes too large to warp properly. Testing at different frame rate caps revealed significant differences:

  • 30 FPS/60 FPS: Major visual issues when moving the camera
  • 100+ FPS: Visual artifacts eliminated, smooth experience

This means Reflex 2 may only prove useful for those with high-end GPUs capable of maintaining 100+ FPS consistently.

Will NVIDIA Officially Support Older GPUs?

Currently, NVIDIA hasn’t announced plans to officially release Reflex 2 for pre-RTX 50 series cards. The company designed the technology specifically for RTX 50 series with its advanced hardware features optimized for Frame Warp processing.

However, the successful operation of this unofficial demo suggests the technology isn’t fundamentally incompatible with older architectures—it simply may not perform as efficiently without the specialized hardware acceleration found in newer cards.

What This Means for Gamers

Competitive gamers on RTX 20, 30, or 40 series cards can experiment with the unofficial tech demo if their systems consistently achieve 100+ FPS in supported titles. The technology promises faster target acquisition, quicker reaction times, and improved aim precision—crucial advantages in competitive shooters like Valorant, CS, and The Finals.

FAQs

Does NVIDIA Reflex 2 work on RTX 30 and RTX 40 GPUs?

An unofficial tech demo works on RTX 20/30 series, and RTX 40 series likely works too, but NVIDIA officially supports only RTX 50 series.

What frame rate do I need for NVIDIA Reflex 2 to work properly?

You need consistent 100+ FPS to avoid visual artifacts; at 30-60 FPS, Frame Warp produces noticeable distortions.
