NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 GPU launch expected later this month, first custom model leaks Speculation that NVIDIA is about to launch a GDDR6 model of the GeForce RTX 4070 has been even more or less showed. Previously, rumors surfaced last week that NVIDIA could be developing this model as a response to reports of short supply on GDDR6X memory chips. Videocardz recently reported AIBs (Add-In-Board partners) are now manufacturing the new version. Specifically, GALAX has prepared a new edition called the GeForce RTX 4070 1-Click OC 2X featuring GDDR6 memory.
The Upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 GPUs
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 has been available in its GDDR6X guise for quite a while now, but the new model will incorporate GDDR6 memory chips. However, the GDDR6 label may have been moved to the back of product packaging so that it is not easily discernible. Though, on the front of the packaging “GDDR6” would have been more straightforward.
The Galax GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 GPU comes in exactly the same design as with the original one, meaning its a dual-slot model and connects only to an 8-pin power connector. But this new model will use the AD104-251 SKU instead of the AD104-250 found in the GDDR6X variants.
According to latest reports, NVIDIA will indeed launch GeForce RTX 4070 with GDDR6 memory on August 20. You see, the original RTX 4070 with GDDR6X memory is said to be in limited supply going forward but based on info from Board Channels it seems they made enough changes in time not to get bitten by this. Its a silent arrival: the GDDR6 version of RTX 4070 will not have any launch events.
The GDDR6 memory in the new RTX 4070 will operate at a slightly lower speed than GDDR6X (20Gbps vs. 21Gbps) and this is where minor differences could stem across some games or apps. However, NVIDIA seems uninterested in formally announcing this card, as it may only be a temporary market presence. Despite these changes, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 remains a top performer in the Ada lineup. Even with the introduction of the RTX 4070 SUPER at a $50 premium, the RTX 4070 continues to be highly popular, selling well both in the Korean market and globally, unlike its higher-end non-Super counterparts.
