Autonomous cars have been becoming a hot topic in the market. And with the latest advancement in technology, smart autonomous cars look within our reach. Earlier this year, Nuro, an American company received a permit that allowed it to test its robots.

The company was founded by two ex-Google engineers and was the only company besides Google’s Waymo to get a California permit allowing it to test driverless cars.

But according to sources, the permit allows the firm to charge people for the service. The company is planning to “announce its first deployment in California with an established partner.”

The permit only allows the company to operate its delivery service in parts of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. Most of the silicon valley workers will be the primary targets of the new permit. Nuro’s completely driverless Prius vehicles will likely be a delivery service, but the company plans on rolling out its custom R2 bots later on.

According to sources, the vehicles are also only allowed to drive in “fair weather conditions,” and the bots are only allowed to go 25 mph. In Arizona, Waymo is running a paid ride service with its driverless cars. So this is a great opportunity for Nuro, to fight its competition.

It has already beaten the other company to the punch in getting the ability to make a business out of it in the state. But it still has a long way to go. We don’t know what the autonomous car industry might go through, but the fact that Apple is going to introduce its Apple Car soon, makes us anticipate a great change on its way.
