Nubia Alpha – Your smartphone at your wrist at just €449

Smart bands and smartwatches have gone through a revolution in these past years. From small tiny displays to larger dial displays, technology advancements have brought changed the scenario totally.

At this MWC 2019 at Barcelona, when most of the smartphone makers showed off their folding smartphone-tablet device, Nubia decided to launch the Nubia Alpha, which is a foldable smartphone-watch combo at the conference.

Yes, you heard it right, the Nubia Alpha is a foldable smartphone in a watch format that readily fits on your wrist. This is one of the most innovative product shown at the MWC 2019.

Nubia Alpha Specs

Though the Nubia Alpha has been designed like a smartwatch its functionalities are just like a full-fledged smartphone. It has all the elements of a smartphone including small screen, camera, and battery into the wearable form factor.

The Nubia Alpha packs in a 4-inch flexible OLED screen, with a 960×192 pixels display resolution. Though might look odd at first, you can easily watch videos in an ultra-wide view on this device.

The device runs on Nubia’s custom made AlphaOS, which equips almost every app you can think of, including a gallery as well as video app.

Nubia also has tried to incorporate something unique using their own – Air Interaction Mechanism or A.I.M. This ensures that even without touching the screen you can control the device.

The device includes a complete dialer app, speaker as well as a microphone for calling on the move – that also in a private mode. You can also do a quick video call or take a selfie with the 5MP camera on the Nubia Alpha.

Talking about sensors and stuff the Nubia Alpha packs all kinds of necessary sensors for sports tracking, heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring, and a lot more…

This wearable smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset and is coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.

Nubia Alpha is juiced by a 500mAh battery, which Nubia states can easily last you up to 2 days on regular use. The smartwatch even provides you with up to 14 hours of music playback and up to 5 hours of voice calling over the eSIM (10 hours on Bluetooth).

Price and Availability

The base variant of this device i.e. the Bluetooth-only variant of the Nubia Alpha has been priced at €449 on the other hand, the eSIM variant will retail at €549.

Both of these variants will be made of stainless steel, but if you desire something shiny and fancy, you will have to shell spend another €100. The 18K Gold Stainless steel variant will cost you €649.
