After today’s Djokovic’s Grand Slam victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the French Open, Novak Djokovic has registered his name in the history books as this was not only his 19th Grand Slam but also he has managed to win all the 4 Grand Slams twice. It has been 52 years since this feat has been achieved by anyone.
Even Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have not been able to achieve this feat however the duo have won 20 Grand Slams each so this victory puts Djokovic just one behind the legendary duo.
Prior to the match, Djokovic stated “I know what I need to do. Obviously Tsitsipas, first time in the finals of a Grand Slam, if I’m not mistaken. For him it’s a great achievement, but I’m sure he doesn’t want to stop there. He’s in great form. I think he leads rankings, race rankings, this year. He’s had his best results overall. I think he matured as a player a lot. Clay arguably his best surface. We played an epic five-setter last year in the semis here. Yeah, I know it’s going to be another tough one. I’m hoping I can recharge my batteries as much as I can because I’m going to need some power and energy for that one.”
In the match during the first set both the players actually looking to be playing at the same level as a matter of the fact at a certain, both players score was tied at 6-6.
While Stefanos Tsitsipas fairly had the upper hand in the second set, however, in order for the Serbian to win he had to win all three sets while the Greek player would have won the Grand Slam if he were able to win just one more set.
However, Novak Djokovic managed to make a comeback in the third set and further on went to win the match all because of the fact he had held his nerves and it was his composure that ensured his victory in the end.
After winning the Grand Slam world’s rank 1 tennis player said in a interview “It was an electric atmosphere. I want to thank my coach and my physio, everyone who has been with me on this journey,”
“I have played almost nine hours over the last 48 hours against two great champions, it was really tough physically over the last three days, but I trusted in my capabilities and knew I could do it.”
