Noussair Mazraoui has been sidelined from training with Bayern Munich after the recent disagreement between the player and the club over the Israel-Gaza war. The player posted a pro-Palestine comment on his social media profiles, which raised the attention of the board and led to a thorough discussion between him and the club.
While the issue itself isn’t the main reason he has been sidelined, he also suffered an injury prior to Morocco’s game against Liberia. The full-back was reportedly seen doing a few rounds of the field alone to recover and not exert himself too much having already suffered an injury.
Noussair Mazraoui absent from Bayern Munich training with injury
“God, help our oppressed brothers in Palestine to achieve victory. May God give mercy to the dead, may God heal their wounded,” Noussair Mazraoui’s post on Instagram read.
“FC Bayern immediately contacted Noussair Mazroui following his Instagram posts on Sunday,” read a club statement to German Press Agency DPA. “The player is currently in Africa with the Morocco national team. After his return, a detailed personal conversation with the club’s management in Munich is planned. Regardless of that, everyone, including every employee and every player, knows what values FC Bayern stands for. We expressed this publicly and unequivocally in a post immediately after the terrorist attack on Israel,” Bayern then said in a swift response to the player’s post on social media.
“The point is that I strive for peace and justice in this world,” Noussair Mazraoui then explained. “This means that I will always be against all kinds of terrorism, hatred and violence.”
The Moroccan has been struggling with game time under Thomas Tuchel as well, being in and out of the first team. While other Muslim players such as Anwar El Ghazi have been suspended by their clubs for pro-Palestine comments, it seems that Mazraoui will not be ruled out in the same way.
