London-based consumer technology firm, Nothing ([https://nothing.tech/](https://nothing.tech/)), has formalized two strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) and the Foundation for Science, Innovation and Development (FSID), Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The agreements were announced during the Bharat Innovates 2026 event in Nice, France, signaling an effort to enhance India’s deep-technology innovation landscape.

The MoUs were signed by Akis Evangelidis, Co-founder and India President of Nothing, alongside Prof. K.K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, and Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, Director of the Indian Institute of Science. Bharat Innovates 2026, organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, serves as a global platform to present India’s deep-technology startups to international stakeholders, and it was held prior to the G7 Summit.

## Advancing Industry-Academia Collaboration

The partnerships aim to strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem by fostering closer ties between academic institutions, emerging startups, and industry. Nothing’s involvement seeks to contribute industry expertise to academic research and startup development.

Akis Evangelidis emphasized the role of collaboration in driving innovation, stating that the partnerships will allow Nothing to share its experience in developing global technology products, while creating opportunities for students, researchers, and startups to develop ambitious ideas into tangible impacts.

Prof. Govindan Rangarajan of IISc highlighted the role of FSID in nurturing deep-tech startups. He noted that the collaboration with Nothing would provide startups with vital industry interactions, mentorship, networking, and training.

Prof. K.K. Pant of IIT Roorkee echoed this sentiment, underscoring the MoU as a commitment to bridging academia and industry. He indicated that combining IIT Roorkee’s research capabilities with Nothing’s product development expertise could foster new avenues for innovation and entrepreneurship.

## Scope of Collaboration

Under the agreement with IIT Roorkee, Nothing will support student mentorship through guest lectures, case studies, and knowledge-sharing sessions. These initiatives will focus on entrepreneurship, deep-tech innovation, product development, and electronics manufacturing. The partnership also plans an Industrial Design Challenge to provide students with practical experience in consumer technology design.

The collaboration with IISc and FSID will involve Nothing engaging with startups incubated within the IISc ecosystem. This includes mentorship, networking opportunities, startup programs, and exploring potential pilot or commercial collaborations. Additionally, the partnership will facilitate industry exposure and training for students and founders, offering guest lectures and visits to Nothing’s facilities.

These collaborations align with broader national efforts to accelerate deep-tech entrepreneurship, facilitate research commercialization, and promote global cooperation within India’s technology sector.
