Nintendo said on Saturday that the United States would start taking pre-orders of the long-awaited Switch 2 on April 24, setting the price of the console at $449.99.

The company also said some accessories would cost more than originally planned. Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump announced “reciprocal” tariffs that would impact the original pre-order date of April 9, and so postponing it was decided.

Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Begin April 24 with Updated Pricing for Console and Accessories

Apple and Nintendo, for instance, produce their products in China and Vietnam. Trump recently put a 145% tariff on China and a 10% tariff on Vietnam. While the tariff on Vietnam has been suspended for a 90-day period, that 10% baseline tariff applies to imports from all countries — Vietnam included.  “We apologize for the preorder delay and hope this helps alleviate any uncertainty,” Nintendo said in a statement. “We appreciate our customers’ patience and are excited to launch the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.”

Nintendo debuted its Switch 2 console at $449.99, defying worries from analysts of rising costs from tariffs. The “Mario Kart World” bundle is set at $499.99, while exclusives “Mario Kart World” and “Donkey Kong Bananza” will cost $79.99 and $69.99, respectively. But several accessories have also gotten price increases. The Joy-Con, whose price was $89.99, will now be $94.99, for instance. The Pro Controller is up $5, from $79.99 to $84.99, and the Switch 2 camera will be $54.99 (previously $49.99).

Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart also confirmed they would start taking pre-orders for the Switch 2 and its games on April 24, after Nintendo made its announcement. The Switch 2, revealed earlier this month, retains the hybrid design of its predecessor, allowing users to play both as a handheld and as a home console. The new model features a larger 7.9-inch display (up from 6.2 inches), with a resolution of 1080p, HDR support, and up to 120fps. The updated controls include larger buttons, control sticks, and a new “C” button for managing voice chat, which requires a subscription.

The original Nintendo Switch remains one of the best-selling consoles ever, with over 150 million units sold since its 2017 release, making it the third-best-selling console of all time. The success of the Switch helped Nintendo regain a strong foothold in the gaming industry, with over 1.3 billion copies of Switch games sold to date. The Switch 2 stays true to the core features of the original, which continues to perform strongly in markets like the U.S. and Europe, making this a strategic move by Nintendo, known for its willingness to innovate with hardware.
