Nintendo has announced that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will open in the United States on April 24, 2025. Although the price of the console remains unchanged (with bundles with Mario Kart World, Mario Kart World alone, and Donkey Kong Bananza offered), the price of its accessories has increased. In a recent blog post, the company cited “changes in market conditions” to explain these price hikes. It also said that further price adjustments on its products could come depending on market trends.

Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-orders Start April 24, 2025; Accessories Price Hikes Announced

The company apologized for the retail pre-order delay and thanked their customers for their patience as they hoped to clear up any ‘uncertainty’. The Switch 2 will officially launch on June 5, 2025, as confirmed by Nintendo. Although the main console price remains unchanged, several accessories for the Switch 2, announced during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2, have experienced price increases. For example, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller has risen from $79.99 to $84.99, and the Joy-Con 2 Controller pair has gone up from $89.99 to $94.99.

Similarly, the price of the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip has increased from $34.99 to $39.99, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set has seen a $10 increase, now priced at $119.99. Other accessories, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera and AC Adapter, have also experienced price hikes. While price hikes are modest so far, the biggest one is a $10 increase for the Dock Set, which leads to an increase in the costs for an already expensive console. There are worries that even more price increases could be potentially on the way, with tariffs still in flux.

Two days after the new Nintendo Switch 2 Direct told the world it could be pre-ordered, the US was told those pre-orders would be delayed due to new tariffs — despite the announcement of the new console at least to raise hopes of a price point that would not be a huge leap from the original Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders for Canada had also been held up; the new date plastered on the site was alleged for April 24, 2025, merely one day after it was speculated by the trusted leaker billbil-kun.
