Nintendo Switch 2 Officially Revealed: Features, Pricing, and Launch Details

Nintendo has officially announced its next handheld gaming device, the Switch 2, which is set to release in April this year. The biggest difference in the new model is how the Joy-Con controllers attach to the body of the device. Instead of a rail making it an effort to secure the controllers in position the Switch 2 will use electromagnetic connectors similar to the ones used in modern tablets which would allow for easier attachment of the controllers.

The Switch 2 is also a fair bit bigger than the current model, so that means the Joy-Cons are bigger too, making for a bulkier device in general. According to leaked mockups of the console, it is expected to have an OLED screen. If true, the Switch 2 is said to feature an NVIDIA Ampere GPU, likely the NVIDIA Tegra T239 chip, putting it in performance-class territory in line with the PlayStation 4, possibly even the PlayStation 4 Pro.

And, the Switch 2 might have a configuration of as much as 12GB of RAM and could even have an upscaling system that works along the lines of NVIDIA’s DLSS tech, giving it even more potential to make the gaming experience better. On the pricing front, various leaks and reports have indicated that the Switch 2 would launch at around $300 (roughly ₹25,000), but a Japanese analyst earlier expected a $400 (approx ₹34,000) price tag, with some games costing as much as $70.

Although Nintendo never officially launched the Switch console in India, many consumers imported it from other regions. With the upcoming release of the Switch 2, there is hope that more people in India will be able to purchase the device locally, marking a potential shift in the console’s availability in the country.
