Nicolo Zaniolo has officially signed for Atalanta from Galatasaray on loan in a deal worth €6.4 million, plus €2 million in add-ons. The Europa League winners will have the option to make the move permanent for a fee worth €15.5 million next summer.
The Italian has returned to his home country after spending a year and a half abroad. He left Roma in winter 2023 for Galatasaray, and spent the remainder of the 22/23 season with them. In 23/24, he played for Aston Villa, making 15 starts in 40 games, and scoring three goals.

The playmaker has battled several major injuries in his career so far, slowing down his progress as a senior player. Things haven’t gone according to plan for the 25-year-old since leaving Roma, but he will be hopeful that the trajectory of his loan spell is similar to that of Gianluca Scamacca and Charles De Ketelaere, both of whom have revived their careers after joining the club.
Atalanta recently triggered the buy option in Charles De Ketelaere’s contract from AC Milan, and have signed him permanently after an impressive loan spell.
It now remains to be seen whether they can rejuvenate the career of yet another attacking player who they’ve signed on loan.
