Inter Milan have extended the contract of Nicolo Barella, after doing the same for Lautaro Martinez recently. The Serie A champions have now secured two of their most valuable players for the upcoming years.
The midfielder won the European Championship with the Italian national team, and has been very valuable for club and country in recent years. The player took to his social media account to announce the renewal and deliver a message to the fans of the club:
“I’m delighted to have extended my contract so I can keep fighting for the Inter cause. All the best to Nerazzurri fans and Forza Inter!”
Barella’s new contract runs until June 2026, and the 24-year-old will now receive a salary worth €5 million per season. The Inter Milan board also wants him to be the next captain of the club after Samir Handanovic. Hence, he will be a prime candidate to wear the armband from next year.
In 11 league games this year, Nicolo Barella has scored one goal and provided five assists. The defending champions are currently third in the table behind arch-rivals AC Milan and Napoli, who are at the top of the pile.
Barella previously featured for fellow Serie A side Cagliari and made the move to Inter Milan in 2019. He initially joined on a loan deal, which was made permanent. The Italy international has managed to make 102 appearances for the Nerazzurri during his time with them, and is all set to make many more in the years to come.
