Leicester City have agreed personal terms with Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez over a transfer to the Premier League. The player was left on the bench for their most recent Coppa Italia game against Sampdoria, which they ended up winning 1-0.
The Foxes have made an official £30 million bid for the player, and it is up to Fiorentina now. They have been contemplating whether or not to sell the winger, and now have an offer on the table in case they want to cash in.
Nico Gonzalez close to signing for Leicester City
There have been rumours suggesting that the £30 million bid for Nico Gonzalez has been rejected. As a result, the move to the King Power Stadium is not done by any means. But, it is certainly possible by the end of the month.
Jonathan Bamba of Lille has emerged as a potential replacement for Gonzalez in case he makes the move to Leicester City. But, there hasn’t been any further development surrounding his future yet.
The Argentine was called up to Lionel Scaloni’s 26-man World Cup squad in Qatar. But, he missed out in the very late stages leading up to the competition due to a thigh injury. His fitness issues have been a concern this season for Fiorentina, and have restricted his playing time. But, he has managed to score 5 goals in 11 appearances regardless.
His versatility could allow him to be the Riyadh Mahrez that Leicester City have been looking for all this while. But, his injury record could be a problem. Leicester have been plagued by a horrible fitness record over the last 18 months, and another name on the injured list is not what they would want.
So, it seems like a bit of a gamble considering Nico Gonzalez has struggled to make himself available. But, he has managed to stay injury-free in the past and could do so again.
