French club Nice have permanently signed Jean-Clair Todibo from Barcelona, extending his spell at the club after spending a year on loan.
Nice have agreed to pay €8.5 million to Barcelona for the transfer, and the amount paid could rise to €15 million with add-ons. The Spanish giants have also agreed a sell on clause in his contract, which means that they will be entitled to any fee that Nice receive for a future transfer.
There is no buyback clause in his contract either, which means that he will not be re-signed by Barcelona in the future.
Todibo joined Barcelona from Toulouse on the winter deadline day in 2019 for a nominal fee of €1 million. The player has since been sent out on loan to Schalke, Benfica and lastly, Nice.
He primarily operates as a centre-back, but can also be called upon to play in defensive midfield. While on loan in France, he made 15 appearances for Nice in Ligue 1 and accumulated over 1300 minutes on the pitch for them. At 21, he is still very young and could turn his career around and earn a move to another big club at a later point in his career.
Barcelona will be happy to offload one of their excess players in Todibo, and will be looking to make further sales to open up spots for newer signings on the wage bill and stabilize the finances.
