Al Hilal are planning to unregister Neymar for the remainder of the 23/24 season, with the forward ruled out due to an ACL injury. The Brazilian picked up the blow in Brazil’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay last month during the World Cup Qualifiers, and he has since undergone successful surgery to correct the issue.

There has been no specific timeline placed on his return just yet, but he is expected to return for the 2024 Copa America with the Brazil National team. As a result, Al Hilal will be without their star signing in spite of spending around €80 million to bring him in from PSG.

The squad rules in Saudi Arabia restrict the number of foreign players that can be registered to eight. So far, Al Hilal are already operating at peak capacity with Yassine Bounou, Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and the Brazilian trio of Malcolm, Michael, and Neymar already registered.

With Neymar unavailable, Jorge Jesus wants to sign a foreign full-back to bolster their defence and unregistering the winger would allow them to do so for the remainder of the season at least.

Al Hilal are currently at the top of the Saudi Pro League and are leading the title challenge in spite of Neymar being ruled out due to injury.
