Over the last few days, the rumours linking Neymar with a return to Barcelona made a comeback with the Brazilian reportedly having halted contract talks with the French Champions. However, these rumours were completely denied by Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano on his Here We Go podcast.

As per the reports coming from Romano himself over the last few months, Neymar was previously  interested in staying at Paris and sees his future at French capital, being impressed with the project and the structure in place at the club. However, no reports of him having cancelled talks are true.

The player is negotiating the last details with Paris and is still close to reaching an agreement. The only factors that need deciding is the amount of bonuses that the player will receive for achieving certain targets on the pitch.

During the January transfer window, Neymar was very vocal about his desire to play with Lionel Messi the next season. And now that Joan Laporta has been re-elected as the Barcelona president, it looks less and less likely that Messi will be signed as a free agent at the end of the season by PSG and more so that he will end up staying at the club.

.

Hence, this is one of the reasons why the Brazilian was reported to have had a change of heart. But as reiterated by Romano, it looks likely that Neymar will successfully extend his contract with Paris in the weeks to come.
