Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr has often been sidelined due to injuries in his whole football career. He has faced some unfortunate incidents owing to long term injuries.

The PSG forward has again suffered an ankle injury during Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Lyon. He had to be stretchered off the field. He is set to miss two further fixtures before the French winter break.

An official medical statement from Paris Saint-Germain read: “Neymar Jr (ankle): following the left ankle sprain mechanism, there is an area of bone contusion for which he continues his care in Ooredoo. His return to competition is expected in January.”

The 28-year-old has been in fine form for PSG since football resumed after the Coronavirus break. He guided PSG to their first-ever Champions League final last season but failed short to an inspired Bayern Munich by inches.

Neymar started this season from where he left it. He has been influential in the field for the French champions and has also been prolific in front of goal, scoring 10 goals in 15 appearances this season.

It will be a huge blow for PSG. Mbappe and Di Maria will have to step up to fill the void. But there’s a silver lining among all these things. It is expected that he will be fit to face his former club, Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16.
