Neymar injured as Paris suffer 1-0 defeat to Lyon

In one of the most highly anticipated matches of the Ligue 1 season, Lyon managed to get the better of Paris Saint-Germain as they won 0-1 at the Parc des Princes. With both sides playing their 14th game of the season, Lyon currently sit 2nd in the table with 29 points.

Paris, on the other hand, slumped to third, albeit only one point behind their opponents on the night. The display was a disappointing one from Thomas Tuchel’s team, and the manager took all the blame for the performance of the team.

Tuchel set out a rather experimental 3-5-2 formation against Lyon, in stark contrast to his favoured 4-3-3 system. The newly employed formation did not prove to be effective at all at the end of the night.

Neymar started the game alongside Moise Kean, along with traditional winger Angel Di Maria being deployed as part of a three-man midfield alongside Marco Veratti and Leandro Paredes. Kylian Mbappe started on the bench due to injury concerns but came on for Di Maria shortly after the hour mark.

A costly mistake by Kimpembe led to the visitors taking the lead, and they managed to hold on to it till the end of the match.

However, the more worrying part of the story for PSG fans was when Neymar had to be stretchered off the pitch in tears after Lyon’s Thiago Mendes committed himself into a very poor challenge.

With initial checks completed, it is assumed that Neymar will be out for about a month at worst, and will not be missing the Parisian’s heavyweight clash against Barcelona in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

The Brazilian’s much-awaited reunion with Lionel Messi will come later this season, but he will find himself playing in the opposition team. At least for the time being.
