For over a decade, the No. 10 on Brazil’s yellow shirt meant one man. That chapter is now officially shut. Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that [Neymar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neymar) will not return to the Seleção, ending one of the most debated storylines in Brazilian football.

## What Ancelotti Said

Speaking to CNN Esportes, Ancelotti made it clear the decision came from Neymar himself, not the coaching staff. “Neymar does not want to return to the national team,” Ancelotti said. He didn’t hold back on the forward’s legacy either: “He cannot be replaced because he was an extraordinary and unique talent. In other words, an irreplaceable player.”

## Neymar’s Legacy Written in Numbers

Neymar leaves as Brazil’s all-time record goalscorer, a mark he claimed in 2023, surpassing the legendary Pelé.

| Stat | Number |
| --- | --- |
| Appearances | 130 |
| Goals | 80 |
| Assists | 59 |
| Goal Involvements | 139 |
| Olympic Gold | 2016 |
| Confederations Cup | 2013 |

## What’s Next for Brazil

With Neymar’s international career now settled, Ancelotti and national team director Rodrigo Caetano are shifting focus toward a youth-driven rebuild ahead of the 2030 World Cup, with an eye on Brazil’s 2004–2008-born talent pool alongside rising stars already breaking through.

It’s the end of an era — but also the opening of a new one for Brazilian football.
