Messi, Suarez and Neymar were one of the most fearsome attacking trios in world football during their days together at Barcelona. However, PSG paid Neymar’s release clause of around 222 million euros and signed the Brazilian in 2017.

However, there have been multiple rumours, over the years linking, him with a possible return to Barcelona. It was in 2019 that the Brazilian almost made up his mind to come back to Camp Nou but the deal didn’t go through and he stayed in Paris.

Now, Neymar has been once again reunited with his Barcelona teammate Messi at PSG, as the French club signed the Argentine at the start of the season on a free transfer due to Barcelona’s financial struggles.

Neymar admits wanting to return to Barcelona in 2019

Neymar’s documentary has been recently released on Netflix. The documentary has revealed plenty of insights into how close he was to leaving Paris Saint-Germain and returning to Barcelona.

Neymar’s father said: “He wanted to leave PSG to go back to Barcelona”

“I didn’t want him to leave PSG, but who do I work for?”

“We tried to leave PSG amicably but it didn’t work out.”

Neymar himself spoke about the possible move and his reasoning for wanting to leave PSG. He said: “When I made the decision to leave PSG, it wasn’t because of a fan or a club. It’s because I saw that I would feel better elsewhere.”

“I never had anything against the PSG fans, nor against the club itself. It was never that. On the contrary, I am very grateful.”

“Even though I didn’t want to continue, I had to train and be prepared. Because if I played badly, everyone would blame me.”

“If we lose I’m the first person responsible. I know the burden and the responsibility I have.”
