When every premium smartphone is using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G SoC, Qualcomm is eyeing for the next generation. The US chipmaker will be using the latest Cortex-A78 and Cortex-X1 super cores in their latest Snapdragon 875 chipset.

Quite expectedly, the Snapdragon 875 will also be a 5G chipset and will come with a “1+3+4” triple cluster architecture which suggests that there will be one super core + three large cores + four energy-efficient cores.

Probably, the configuration will consist 1 x high performance Cortex-X1 core + 3 x Cortex-A78 cores + 4 x energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. The ARM Cortex X1 delivers a 30% higher peak performance than the Cortex-A77 while the new Cortex-A78 CPU provides a 20% sustained performance improvement over Cortex-A77 CPU.

According to MyDrivers, the ARM Cortex-X1 core will appear on Samsung’s 2021 Exynos 1000 chip which will be combined with AMD RDNA GPU that will provide impressive overall performance.

ThisSnapdragon 875 architecture will indeed provide great overall performance for high-end flagship smartphones to take Apple’s upcoming A-series chips based on 5 nm process. Similarly, the Snapdragon 875 will this time be made on 5 nm fabrication process providing better performance and efficiency as well.

Also, the Snapdragon 875 will feature X60 5G modem which is compatible with both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks. The chipset will be the standard one to be used on the Android flagships in 2021 and we can expect it to release in December this year.
