According to a source on Weibo known as “Instant Digital” Apple’s next iPad Pro models are set to include an option for a matte display marking the time this choice will be offered. This matte display alternative will be in addition to the glass finish. The matte screen is said to have a haze range of 4° to +29°. It might feature blue light-blocking technology for eye protection. Apple‘s decision to offer this option could be in response to the demand for matte screen protectors for iPads giving users flexibility when making their purchase.

More About the Upcoming Apple iPad Pro

It is not yet confirmed if the matte display will use “texture” glass compared to what is found on the Pro Display XDR and Studio Display. Nano-texture glass creates a matte appearance by scattering light reducing glare in lit settings. While matte coatings help reduce reflections they may slightly affect image sharpness. With its textured surface nano texture glass aims to preserve image quality.

Nano-texture glass has been limited to desktop displays so far. Its texture makes cleaning more challenging as it tends to attract oil and debris. Apple recommends using abrasive cloths for cleaning purposes. The impact of fingerprints on a matte iPad display remains uncertain due, to these surface properties.

There is a chance that the upcoming iPad Air models might offer a matte display option. This information has not been officially confirmed yet. Instant Digital has also hinted at the introduction of iPad models this week. In a statement, Instant Digital implied that the iPhone 17 could come with a reflective display that is even more resistant, to scratches compared to Apple’s Ceramic Shield. It’s unclear if this technology relates to the new matte display for the iPad, but it’s a plausible connection.

While Instant Digital has provided accurate information in the past, its track record is mixed. They correctly predicted the Yellow spring refresh for the iPhone 14, Spatial Video capture for the iPhone 15 Pro, and minor hardware updates for the Apple Watch Series 9. However, some of their claims, such as certain iOS 17 features and the release timing of a new iPad Air in October 2023, did not materialize.
