Newcastle United are yet to find an official replacement for Steve Bruce. The former Magpies boss was dismissed after two years in charge. But, two weeks after the sacking, the board is yet to officially announce a new name to take the reins. Frank Lampard, Lucien Favre and Roberto Martinez have been considered as potential choices.
Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag is one of the top names on the list for Newcastle, as reported by Sportsmail. Ten Hag has earned a great reputation in Europe since he guided Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.
The Dutchman recently signed a new deal with the Eredivisie champions to steer away potential suitors. Newcastle are not willing to give up just yet. They are preparing an £11 million per season offer for Erik Ten Hag which would make him the third best paid manager in England behind Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.
The Manchester City boss earns £20 million per season. His rival, Klopp, pockets a wage worth £15 million at Liverpool. Hence, Ten Hag would be among the highest earners in England should he take the job.
He has been reluctant to leave Ajax despite several offers already. Barcelona and Tottenham were interested in his services, but he chose staying at Ajax over a move to these big clubs.
Paulo Fonseca is also among the top names being considered, and he has reached an agreement with Newcastle. Once the board gives the green light, we could see the former Roma boss in charge. But with the way things are, Newcastle are taking their time to finalise their new manager.
