Newcastle United getting closer to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid

Newcastle United are getting closer to signing Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. The Englishman is on the verge of returning to England soon, and could be announced as a Newcastle United player as soon as next week.

He is the top target for the Magpies, and is close to signing for the Premier League club. The reported transfer fee will be around £25 million for the right-back.

Kieran Trippier exit soon?

Trippier joined Atletico Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, and was a key player as the team won La Liga last season. But, he has remained keen on a move back to the Premier League, and it seems like his time is coming now.

Newcastle have been working to sign the player since December 15, and have submitted an official bid for him as well. The agreement is expected to be completed soon. Even Diego Simeone, manager of Atletico Madrid, seems resigned to losing the Englishman.

“Kieran Trippier is an extraordinary footballer who has given us a lot and we will try to keep him,” said Atlético’s manager. “We want him to stay, he’s an important player, but nowadays, when a player wants to leave, you can’t force them to stay. You can’t retain them.”

Trippier is among four players that the Rojiblancos hope to land in the ongoing transfer window. Sven Botman is one of the other targets, but Lille have rejected the offer, insisting that the defender isn’t for sale. So, we might see a number of new names joining Eddie Howe’s squad by the end of the month.
