New Hangar 21 tech demo highlights next-generation visuals with AMD RDNA 2 architecture

AMD’s new RDNA 2 graphics architecture is indeed revolutionary as it brings ray tracing to new AMD RX 6000 series GPUs as well as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X consoles. It provides up to 54% more perf/watt over original RDNA architecture introduced last year.

Although it is the first step towards ray tracing by AMD using DirectX 12 Ultimate to unlock the best balance of visual fidelity and performance, it is indeed impressive. AMD has partnered with game developers to bring support for ray tracing and the new Hangar 21 tech demo just shows how impressive next-gen gaming on AMD GPU will be.

AMD’s Ray Accelerator is specialized hardware that handles the intersection of rays providing an order of magnitude increase in intersection performance compared to a software implementation. While AMD FidelityFX is an open-source collection of optimized visual technologies bring new levels of detail, reflections, and color, without heavy computational costs.

The feature is available in 35 games today, including in both some of the latest titles such as Little Hope, Flight Simulator, Second Extinction, Serious Sam 4, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, and F1 2020. Learn more HERE

In addition to this, today AMD also released a collection of new content on GPUOpen to help developers take full advantage of everything AMD RDNA 2 architecture has to offer. The new release includes three new FidelityFX effects, updates to the developer tools, as well as new tutorials and videos. Learn more HERE.
