October is when the evenings get darker, the blankets come out, and Netflix UK seems to know exactly what you need. This month has returning favourites, a big literary adaptation, a Ben Affleck thriller and a run of international films. Here’s how to plan your month without wasting a single evening.

### The Netflix Big Dates

### Start the Month With Something Meaty

Kick things off with ***East of Eden***. It’s a sweeping adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel, following two generations of a family divided by a fiercely independent woman. Florence Pugh leads, so expect big performances and a slow-burn story worth savouring.

On October 2, sports fans get ***Schumacher ’94***, which revisits Michael Schumacher’s first World Championship win through interviews and archive footage from that legendary Formula 1 season. It’s a treat if you enjoy racing stories (or if you just want to sound clever at the pub).

### Thrills, Politics and a Little Chaos

Mid-month is the strongest stretch. ***Animals*** (Oct 9) has Ben Affleck directing and starring alongside Kerry Washington in a tense story about a family pushed to breaking point. Six days later, ***The Diplomat*** returns for Season 4. This time a catastrophic event shatters the fragile peace Kate Wyler brokered between the US and UK, so the stakes have never been higher.

Also watch for ***Sacrifice***, an action-comedy starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans, plus the Swedish comedy ***The Storm***.

### Comfort Watching for the Cosy Nights

Need something lighter? ***Nobody Wants This*** Season 3 lands on October 22, with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody back as Joanne and Noah for another chapter of the romantic comedy. The next night, ***Lupin*** Part 4 arrives, a good reason to mark your calendar and clear your Friday.

### Don’t Miss What’s Leaving

Every Netflix month has a goodbye list. This October, *The Wandering Earth*, all three seasons of *Victoria*, and the comedy *Tropic Thunder* are all leaving the UK library. If any of them are on your list, watch them early.

### Smart Viewing Tips

1. **Binge by theme.** Pair *Animals* with *The Diplomat* for a “power and pressure” weekend.
2. **Try one subtitled film.** *The Storm* or *Collision Course* are easy entry points into international cinema.
3. **Save the weekend for series.** Big returns land on Thursdays and Fridays, so plan your sofa time.
4. **Check dates often.** Netflix adds titles and shifts schedules through the month, and the UK list is still growing.
