Netflix planning on becoming the best in the gaming industry

Netflix wants to be the ‘greatest’ gaming service in the market by 2022 when it plans to grow its library of playable titles.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings was questioned about how the firm will tackle interactive content in the long run during a recent earnings interview. During the interview, Hastings stated simply, “We have to be differentially fantastic at it, there’s no use in just being in it.”

Netflix launched its gaming service in November 2021, allowing Netflix subscribers to play a selection of mobile games for no additional charge. Stranger Things: The Game, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Card Blast, Teeter, and Shooting Hoops were among the first five games to be released on Android and Apple devices in 190 countries.

In the immediate term, Netflix intends to expand on its initial offering. In a shareholder letter on January 20, the business elaborated on the future of its gaming service:

“Since launch, we released an additional five games, bringing the total to ten for 2021. It’s still very early days but we’re pleased with our progress. In 2022, we’ll expand our portfolio of games across both casual and core gaming genres as we continue to program breadth of game types to learn what our members enjoy most.”

We’ll hopefully also hear from Night School, the award-winning developer of Oxenfree, which Netflix purchased last year.

Following the debut of Netflix’s gaming services, Xbox boss Phil Spencer praised the firm for deciding to enter the video game industry. “I think what [Netflix] is doing is brilliant,” Xbox CEO Phil Spencer adds. “They’re going to buy some studios.” They’re learning about interactive entertainment’s creative process. And I believe that is a pretty clever method for them to enter the space.”

Netflix opened the new year by introducing two more games, bringing the total number of games available to twelve. The company’s newest games are Krispee Street, a hidden object game, and Arcanium: Rise of Akhan, a roguelike deckbuilding game inspired by Hearthstone. Below is a complete list of Netflix’s available games.
