Netflix’s popular mystery thriller show gets cancelled just after one season on Netflix. At first, the streamer exposed that in 1899 at the time of the big TUDUM event, last September that follows a group of passengers had travelled along the Atlantic Ocean. 1899 mainly hit on the streamer on 17th November with eight episodes of the freshman season.
This is unfortunate, we are not going to get any second season of the series as the co-showrunners Baran bo Odar and Jantje Freise have confirmed on social media. This is Netflix’s most controversial cancellation, and the fans still waiting for the possibility of another network or streaming service to continue the genre-bending horror-mystery series.
Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese said,” With a heavy heart we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed,” also added,” We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season as we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned. That’s life. We know this will disappoint millions of fans of our hearts to thank you from the bottom of our hearts that you were a part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Never forget. Bo & Jantje.”

In 1899, the story is based on a group of European migrants leaving London with a steamship- to begin new lives in New Tork city. The show features Emily Beecham, Aneurin Barnard, Andras Pietschmann, Miguel Bernadeau, Maciej Musial, Anton Lesser, Lucas Lynggard Tonnesen, Rosalie Craig, Clara Rosabger, Maria Erwolter, Martin Greis-Rosenthal, Tann Gael, Mathilde Ollivier, Jose Pimentao, Isabela Wei, Gabby Wong, Jonas Bloquet, Fflyn Edwards, and Alexandre Willaume.
Feiser stated,” There is a lot in the DNA that is kind of close to Dark in terms of the puzzle and needing an engaged active audience,” also added,” But there are also things that are quite different in terms of atmosphere and tonality, but also pacing and more action stuff happening. So it is truly a beast of its own, but shares a lot of the same may be mechanisms as Dark does. Hopefully, it feels like something really fresh and new, while still [being] exactly what Dark fans would like to watch.”
Odar explained,” We do love to play with genres and expectations,” and also added,” I think you have to watch carefully because every little piece means something.”.
