According to the sources, it states that Netflix intends to charge between $7 and $9 for its future ad-supported tier. The cheapest Netflix package available in the US right now costs $9.99 per month and offers 480p viewing.

Additionally, they offer a $19.99 monthly subscription for 4K streaming and a $15.49 plan for 1080p streaming. Those who don’t mind commercials and don’t want to shell out $9.99 or more for an essential subscription are the target audience for the less expensive ad-supported tier.

Netflix expects to sell about four minutes of advertising every hour, which is less than the 10 to 20 minutes of advertisements per hour displayed by cable companies. Ads will be shown before and during TV series and movies.

Comparison Among Tiers

While commercials are playing, customers won’t be able to skip them or use playback settings, but Netflix does want to limit ad targeting and make sure that repetition is kept to a minimum.

In comparison to more expensive tiers, the ad-supported tier will have additional limitations, and they do not intend to permit plan subscribers to download TV series and movies for offline watching.

Due to its inability to maintain its subscription base, Netflix has turned to advertisements. In the first quarter of 2022, the company had a subscriber decline for the first time in ten years, attributed to “a big number of households sharing accounts” and “competition.” Before the year is over, they hope to bring out the cheaper plan in a few select markets, but a full rollout might not happen until 2023.
