Nemanja Matic will be reuniting with Jose Mourinho at Roma, after leaving Manchester United as a free agent. The player’s contract expires at the end of the month, and he will not be renewing with the Premier League side any further.
As a result, Roma have agreed to sign him on a one-year deal with the option to extend for a further year. He is their second signing of the summer transfer window after Serbian goalkeeper Mile Svilar from Benfica.
Nemanja Matic to join Roma this summer
Matic initially signed for Chelsea in 2009, and was sent out on a loan spell to Vitesse. A year later, he was sold to Benfica and was eventually brought back in 2014. After spending three and a half years with the Blues, Nemanja Matic made the switch to Manchester United.
And five years after his €45 million transfer, he is set to leave them upon the expiry of his contract. The Serbian midfielder has not been able to establish a concrete position for himself in the starting line-up and has been in and out of the team.
Making a move to the Serie A at 33 years old, he will provide some much needed experience to Roma. And as a result, his arrival could be a big boost for Jose Mourinho’s defensive style of play. The transfer is set to be announced officially within the coming days, once the formalities have been completed.
