Neeraj Chopra has won the silver medal in the javelin throw competition at the Paris Olympics 2024. The defending champion was dethroned by Arshad Nadeem, who had to pull off an Olympic record throw of 92.97 metres to win the gold medal.

Chopra’s best was far from Nadeem’s numbers, and the Pakistani has deservingly won the gold for his country. However, Chopra ensured that he threw 89.45 metres to make it to the podium, with India’s first silver medal at this year’s Olympics coming through him.

The 26-year-old made history in Tokyo last time around, but came up short to a world record this time. However, he is still among the best in the world, as he proved at the competition.

Anderson Peters of Grenada completed the podium by earning the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54. His closest competitor, Jakub Vadlejch, missed out on a medal by 0.04 metres, coming in just short of the Grenadian.

India currently ranks 64th in the medal tally, with four bronze medals and one silver medal as things stand.
