Two romantic dramas, one release date. **[Nayanthara](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nayanthara)** and Kavin’s upcoming film **“Hi”** now has an official date — **August 14, 2026** — and it’s walking straight into a box-office clash with Suriya’s “Vishwanath And Sons.”

## What’s “Hi” All About?

Marking the directorial debut of lyricist-turned-filmmaker Vishnu Edavan, “Hi” is a romantic drama believed to center on two tenants living in the same residential building whose lives quietly intertwine. The newly released promo leans into the leads’ contrasting personalities through a simple, charming interaction — enough to build genuine curiosity without giving too much away. The film carries a U/A certificate.

Edavan previously worked as an assistant director to Lokesh Kanagaraj and has penned lyrics for major hits including Rajinikanth’s “Coolie” and Thalapathy Vijay’s “Master” and “Leo” — giving this debut some serious industry pedigree behind the camera.

## Why This Release Date Is A Big Deal

Landing in the middle of Independence Day week is prime real estate for Tamil cinema, and having two star-driven romantic dramas open the same day sets up a genuinely interesting audience split — Nayanthara and Kavin’s fresh pairing versus Suriya and Mamitha Baiju’s family drama.

Beyond “Hi,” Nayanthara has a packed slate ahead, including Yash’s “Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups” (arriving August 26), “Dear Students,” “Mookuthi Amman 2,” and a co-lead role opposite Salman Khan in Vamshi Paidipally’s next.
