Second day of Navratri 2024: Who is Maa Brahmacharini? Importance of honoring her
During Shradiya Navratri, on the second day, people worship Maa Brahmacharini. Devotees adore Maa Brahmacharini, the great Sati, in her single form. She is portrayed as having two hands, going barefoot, and holding a kamandal in her left hand and a jap mala (prayer beads) in her right.
Drik Panchang claims that Goddess Parvati was born at Daksha Prajapati’s house following her transformation into the Kushmanda form. Goddess Brahmacharini underwent intense penance in order to marry Lord Shiva. It is reported that she slept on the ground for 1,000 years while consuming only fruits and flowers, and then for another 100 years, she only ate leafy vegetables as part of her penance.
According to Hindu tradition, she remained on a diet of Bilva leaves for 3,000 years as she prayed to Lord Shankar. She eventually quit consuming the leaves and learned to exist without food or water.
Goddess Brahmacharini oversees Lord Mangal, the provider of all fortunes. Worshiping her is said to naturally enhance virtues like penance, renunciation, dispassion, and restraint. Additionally, one can improve their moral behavior.
