Matchday four of the Nations League saw Portugal ease past Switzerland while Spain played out a 2-2 draw against Czech Republic. Here is all the action that went down on June 5:

Nations League results June 5

  • San Marino 0 – 2 Malta
  • Cyprus 0 – 0 North Ireland
  • Gibraltar 0 – 2 North Macedonia
  • Bulgaria 2 – 5 Georgia
  • Czech Republic 2 – 2 Spain

Czech Republic 2-2 Spain

The hosts found the lead very early in the game through Jakub Pesek burying the ball into an empty net. They were able to hold on to the lead until right before half time, when Gavi was able to find the gap between a packed defense to beat the goalkeeper and level things up.

The second half saw Inigo Martinez make a mistake to allow Jan Kuchta in on goal. The Czech Republic striker lobbed the ball into the back of the net to restore the lead. But, Martinez made amends by scoring the equaliser himself in the 90th minute – making both teams settle for a draw.

Portugal 4-0 Switzerland

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the starting line-up for Portugal against Switzerland, and scored a brace in quick succession. The home team were 3-0 up by half-time, ending all hopes of a close contest between the two. Joao Cancelo was able to make it four for his side after Gregor Kobel made a horrible error to give him all the space in the world to tap in.

Portugal now top their Nations League table, while Czech Republic and Spain trail behind them.
