The second matchday of the Nations League had a couple of surprises, with France, Croatia and Belgium being defeated on home soil. Denmark, Austria and the Netherlands were able to put the big teams to the sword in their openers, and take three huge points in the process.

Nations League results 3rd June

France 1-2 Denmark

The defending Nations League and World Cup winners were defeated at home following a comeback from Denmark. Karim Benzema scored his 50th goal of the season after dancing through the Danish defense and slotting the ball past Kasper Schmeichel. But on the other end, Andreas Cornelius showed great positioning and netted a double to help his side get the huge win.

Belgium 1-4 Netherlands

The Oranje started their Nations League campaign in sensational fashion, putting one of FIFA’s highest ranked squads to the sword. Steven Bergwijn opened the scoring in the first half, and Memphis Depay netted a double following the break accompanied by a goal from Denzel Dumfries. Michy Batshuayi was able to score a consolation goal in the final minutes, but it did not make a difference to the result.

Croatia 0-3 Austria

Marko Arnautovich started the scoring shortly before half time, with a right footed shot from outside the box. Michael Gregoritsch and Marcel Sabitzer got onto the scoresheet in quick succession following half-time to pile on more misery onto the hosts, who are now at the bottom of their group.

Other results from the matchday:

  • Belarus 0-1 Slovakia
  • Kazakhstan 2-0 Azerbaijan
  • Latvia 3-0 Andorra
  • Liechtenstein 0-2 Moldova
