Exciting News: National Film Development Corporation Selects 6 Films for Film Bazaar 2024 Lab!

The National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) announced on Monday the selection of six exceptional films for the Work-in-Progress Lab at the upcoming Film Bazaar 2024, which is a co-production market event held concurrently with the International Film Festival of India IFFI. Among these films, five are debut features by up-and-coming filmmakers, highlighting new voices in the industry.

The selected films include “Shape of Momos” by Tribeny Rai, “Gaangshalik” by Shakteedhar Bir, “Yerra Mandaram” by Mohan Kumar Valasala, “Kaatti Ri Raatti” by Ridham Janve, “Umal” by Siddharth Badi, and “The Good The Bad The Hungry” by Vivek Kumar.

The International Film Festival of India is being held in Goa and wishes to showcase deviations in the storytelling techniques with unique cinema taken from young filmmakers with reframing of their original vision. This year, the festival will feature mostly debut filmmakers and other projects in the lineup, highlighting its ongoing dedication to finding new voices in a press release.

“This initiative not only nurtures creativity but also invites audiences to engage with stories reflecting the complexities of contemporary life through the eyes of a new generation of artists. Film Bazaar is at the forefront of celebrating these emerging voices,” the release stated.

Run since 2018, the Work-in-Progress Lab is focused on fiction features intended for theatrical release. Selected films also get a unique opportunity for their directors and editors to be mentored in one-on-one feedback with a panel of respected mentors who will critique their rough cuts.

Noted editors, from both the national and international markets, will help the selected filmmakers in the editing process and refining their vision. Film Bazaar is scheduled to be held from 20-24 November and IFFI is from 20-28 November. This association emphasizes the commitment to nurturing and championing emerging filmmakers in Indian Cinema.
